meditation

mind may you wander

for the grief of the world

is inconsistent with the peace in my heart

hard won at war with myself

now i watch a peaceful sunrise

with a good dog

in silence

silence is a gift and without it

how do we keep peace in our hearts

my feet keep the beat

of my uncontrolled ramblings

there is still rhythm there

it is interrupted by the idea

that we have not learned

how could we not have learned by now?

but look at the way her

ears bounce when she prances

mind may you wander

at the incredible depth

your lungs are able to breathe

as the world i live in

it has fresh water

and clean air

when streets are torn up

and blood is spilled

we all lose, no one is winning

no one has ever won

but that cloud looks like cotton candy

and that weeping willow is so beautiful

i could cry

mind may you wander

because there’s no such thing

as the right thing

to say right now

and if the peace

that i feel in the mornings

on my walk

with my dog

adds to any sort of peace in the grand scheme

it is okay

mind may you wander

while this dystopian societal collapse

did not come

with cool technology

or any sort of social leap forward

it did come with the ability

to watch it unfold in real time

you cannot forget those are humans

because we are already numb

mind may you wander

because when the sunrise in the morning

takes my breath away

it does so gently

and it gives it back
