bits and pieces

1 min

if i were to collect the essentials

the biggest hits

the bits and pieces

i’ve left for

well, anyone

they would look like color

and words and pixels

i’ve danced and dragged across the page

it would look like

a blade sliding smoothly through matboard

glass breaking on a clean edge

the shatter of the discarded piece

it would be the smell of snow

and the sound of that one bird

it would look like ink and blood

scar tissue and paint

it would be the kiss of a sea breeze

hello, goodbye

i love you

it would be that feeling in my heart

when you make that face

or how your hand feels like home

and your words like an old friend

oh they would be lovely

the bits and pieces

the rocks and bones and candles

the way a lizard moves

the silence before the world wakes

i think i’ll keep them

under the big evergreen
