Lost in the Woods
Oaks Bluff was surrounded by a forest that stretched all the way to the mountains and had more thrift stores than you could count. Main […] -

I had to read this twice, let the meaning seep into my mind. So many distinct lines, but ‘smells like guilt’ and the repetition ‘this is only yours’ drives the intent home. Great piece, River.

oh I love hummingbirds and this is a really beautiful ode to them. I now will only refer to them as tiny dragons.

I enjoyed this so much. Fascinating to learn about the derby. Horseracing is kind of big in the UK but only for the rich generally (So I’ve never been 😁) – seems like a much more inclusive affair stateside. Love mohitos so I think a mint julep will be highly apreciated. Not sure I can get the right borboun here, but’ll give it a go!

This is one of those short stories that you think about long after you’ve finished reading. The pace, the character development – it hits on all cylinders.

Wonderful story, you absolutely nailed the vernacular of this world and period. I was picturing the Huntsman movie as I read this. Loved the confidence in the last line, believe in truth or do not. Stellar work!

River, you’ve got something going with this story. Witches recruiting for powers, a reluctant heir. Good stuff. I was absorbed in this – and I knew it’d be a teaser chapter when I read the first sentence, but come on, haha! Put continuing this story on top in your WIP folder!

Grounding is an essential part of enjoying the simple things. I too have bunnies and they are eyeballing my romaine. Nice work and I love the lead image.

SO beautifully written, fairy tale quality with a strong message of love. Some of your best work, right here!

Masterpiece, chef’s kiss with this poem, Paul. The urgency and escalation of the hate building, first sinking, then drowning is clever and apt. Melancholic and soothing rhythm, though, fighting the hate. Very relatable piece. Great work.
