Jesus Paul…You need to SOC more often! This is bloody brilliant – Loved it! The humour, the references – fantastic writing! And have to agreee…Dan Brown is a bit of a bore 😁

bahaha. Hands down some of the most fun I’ve had writing in a while. I am not going to say whether it’s honest or not…that’s not the point lol. I think I was thinking too much about success, ambition and how artists of all kinds are supposed to be “Oh I don’t want the fame and legacy” and it made me think “Why?” That’s probably the most honest part. The rest…well…I just thought it would be hilarious to write something unashamedly arrogant lol. It was suppose to be my next post on the other place…but I decided to put it here first. A Mus-d exclusive lol! Thank you for your lovely comment…I was worried (though not really) about this one…and yes, Dan Brown. I never bothered reading a full book, because I found his writing tedious. I am sure the others mentioned in a less than flattering light might stir the pot a little…but that’s what art’s there for. lol. I am concerned too – I state my passing as being 45…I’m bloody 44 now lol!

Honestly, I think it’s one of my favourite pieces of yours- the tone is perfect, just truly brilliant! And a Mus’d exclusive – I’m liking that. I have an IT dude meeting tomorrow as I’ve reached the rather low zenith of my tech capability – hopefully he can sort the messaging issue and set up stripe so we can start paying for reads and the daily Muse payout and stuff. It’s gonna take a while but hopefully we can build a really community 🙂 And PS We have nothing against ‘The other place’ just didn’t give us what we needed 🤍

Wow, this is so freaking good. Everything, the detail, I agree with Celia the humor was an outstanding part of the piece. Really awesome work here Paul

Thank you, River! It’s the best fun I had had up until that point when I wrote it. Not that I ever write and don’t enjoy it. I just felt so…free and unhinged haha! Appreciate that it’s being received in the way it was intended. Thank you again!

This is twisted, in a really great way. I immediately was attached to Sam. Your first paragraph was so strong, really brought me in. Nicely done!

This is one of those short stories that you think about long after you’ve finished reading. The pace, the character development – it hits on all cylinders.

Thank you so much, Dana!! Every time I reread this one, the sadness of the all too real situation lingers with me. I appreciate your thoughts 🙂

Wonderful story, you absolutely nailed the vernacular of this world and period. I was picturing the Huntsman movie as I read this. Loved the confidence in the last line, believe in truth or do not. Stellar work!

Oh my…this was so frivilously fun until the sucker punch of the last line – that slapped me right in the face! Very true though, I use it a lot and hate that I do but its that western kinda thing we do to ourselves when we just wanna moan but have been programmed to not. I love your cover art so much also! Beautiful!

It feels like such a crutch and yet I can’t help doing it. Like, here’s the silver lining to your sack of crap. Thank you so much for reading 🙂 And I’ve been trying to go through all my ‘discarded’ images and use them for inspiration.

I hear that…another go to for me is the classic ‘could be worse’ …Its somehow comforting to know that other people find themselves irritated with themselves as much as I am with myself 🤣 Wow, discared – it really is stunning!

I loved this Paul – I didn’t realised you studied film – that must have been so interesting! Your reasons (or not) Definitely resonate! And the ending made me chuckle – like such a Paul ending😁

Paul Stewart replied 2 years ago
Well…I love to leave people wondering…as you know…and I do struggle with whether it’s all a big con and really we just want people to say “you’re amazing” and all this bells and whistles about it being in our blood and very being and needing a release is bullcrap lol. I know it’s not, but love playing with that…and it is a very confusing thing. I think…for many writers…we start for some reason…then the reason changes…like life andd then you forget about why you started in the first place really. Like musicians…there are a lot of bands that just got together because getting girls/boys/whoever was easier being in a band…and then it became more. lol. Thank you though! Glad the ending made you laugh…that was my intention! 🙂

Oh, this is awesome, Celia! More of that wonderful world-building and intriguing imagination at play here. How did you get the narration done? It really worked well! Enjoyed it a lot and love when you just let your mind wander and conjure up these beautiful tales. So often with strong female leads. Impressive!
Thank you so much Paul! It’s narrated by a friend of Rivers. They’re are a folk musician and they have this amazing voice so they recorded it and I put it into vid with the words. It feels so weird to actually hear my own story! We were thinking for the quest winner one of the prizes might be to have the story narrated and set to vid? Do you think that might be something writers would want?
Oh wow…cos at first I thought it was AI…but noticed you marked the non-AI thing and it sounded way more natural. I think it would be an awesome and intriguing prize for sure. For me anyway. Would be good for people’s portfolio – if they were considering what else they could do with their writing – as it would showcase the flow and cadence or in general how it sounded…I think. I can imagine it sounding weird lol. I thought that when Jazzy would read stuff on her podcast, lol. Surreal. But…if we ever become something with the writing…lots of different people would be reading them haha! But, honestly, I love your vivid and almost psychedelic magical realism, deep and philosophical fiction!
Wow, what a beautiful and creative story! I loved the narrator’s voice and have been appreciating the font that’s been used for the content on Mus’d 🙂
